Rachel Swenson
About Me:

I was raised in central Wisconsin and initially came to Minnesota for college, but I liked it so much that I’ve stayed for over twenty years and consider myself a Minnesotan. My husband grew up in south central Minnesota and we decided to permanently settle our family here because we believe this is a great place to live, work and raise our children. We have three children and thoroughly enjoy living in a small rural community. I enjoy spending time with my family, camping, cooking and going to local sporting events.

Education:

I received my Bachelor of Social Work degree from St. Cloud State University in 1998. I practiced for several years before returning to graduate school and completing my Masters in Clinical Social Work degree in 2006 from the University of St. Thomas and the College of St. Catherine (now St. Catherine’s University) in St. Paul, Minnesota. My clinical fieldwork practice and clinical research were in children’s mental health.

Work Experience:

I have twenty years’ experience working with individuals and families in community and outpatient settings. I have worked with the whole range of ages, from children and adolescents to adults and the elderly. I have experience working with diverse problems including a wide range of mental health problems (depression, anxiety, posttraumatic stress disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, serious and persistent mental illnesses), domestic violence, child abuse, neglect, substance abuse, child behavioral problems, developmental disabilities, homelessness, phase of life adjustments, family relationship issues, parenting concerns and family transitions such as divorce. I provide diagnostic assessments, individual psychotherapy, couples therapy and family therapy. My clinical framework includes focus on the person in environment, with use of relational, family systems, solution focus, and cognitive behavioral approaches.
