Amanda Knutson, M.S., LPCC

About Me

I was born and raised in rural south Central Wisconsin. I studied psychology and music at Coe College in Iowa. Upon graduation, I relocated to Mankato. I have been a proud resident of Mankato for over 20 years. My favorite thing to do is spend time with my family and friends. In my free time, I enjoy casual reading; walking; classical, current and 80s music; and traveling.

Education

I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in music and psychology at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. I enjoyed playing the violin with the orchestra and the Collage group. I received my Master of Science degree from Minnesota State University from the Counseling and Student Personnel Department. I completed an internship at the Riverview Clinic in Mankato and began working there after my internship was complete. I am currently licensed by the Minnesota Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy as a licensed professional clinical counselor.

Work Experience

I began my career working with troubled teens in a residential setting and also have worked for several years in a group home setting with developmentally disabled individuals. I currently see individuals, couples, families, adolescents and children. I primarily practice cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavioral therapy. However, those techniques are not always suitable for every individual, so I approach each case individually. I also practice EMDR therapy. I have assisted individuals with anxiety, depression, PTSD, personality disorders, bipolar disorder, cognitive disorders, traumatic brain injury, addiction issues and domestic violence. I also have training from the LGBT Affirmative Mental Health Alliance and have had refugee training through the Minnesota Council of Churches.
